Mourinho Apologizes To Fans As United Fall To Chelsea

In a game that promised much for United as Jose Mourinho returned to Chelsea for the first time and received a very warm reception from the Chelsea fans and a hug from John Terry, the Blues blew away the Red-Devils. United never recovered from conceding a goal to Pedro in the opening minute after a clamitous mistake by Chris Smalling allowed the Spanish winger to seize the opportunity and put Chelsea 1-0 up after only 30 seconds. Further goals from Gary Cahill, Eden Hazard and N’Golo Kante made the scoreline a very depressing and emphatic looking 4-0 to Chelsea.

Jose Mourinho seemed to get his tactics wrong in a big match where he usually delivers his best games and he had this to say after the game as reported by the BBC,

“To the millions of fans we have around the world they have a bad feeling and I am so sorry for that,” said Mourinho.

“I have to apologise as the leader of the dressing room and the only thing I can say is I’m 100% Man Utd, not 99% for Man Utd and 1% for Chelsea.

“I feel deeply the situation but there is only one answer, training on Monday and keep fighting.”

Some reports from Italian media outlets suggested Mourinho had words with Conte when they spoke on the touchline near the end of the game with the Portuguese reported to have said: “You don’t celebrate like that at 4-0, you can do it at 1-0, otherwise it’s humiliating for us.”

During their post match news conferences both managers had nothing to say about their conversation when they came together on the touchline but Conte did have this to say,

“There was no incident, it was just a normal thing to do. I wasn’t mocking anyone, I wouldn’t do that,” said Conte.

“Today it was right to call our fans in a moment when I was listening to only the supporters of Manchester United at 4-0.

“The players, after a 4-0 win, deserved a great clap. It’s very normal.

“If we want to cut the emotion we can go home and change our job.”

So it would seem Manchester United are still very much a work in progress and it would appear that Jose and his team of coaches have got quite a job on their hands at this point.
